CBD Flower: Your Easy-to-digest Guide

CBD hemp flower is the non-psychoactive answer to marijuana.  This special herb is grown to have high levels of Cannabidiol (CBD), with just a minimal amount – less than 0.3% – of THC.  This one-sided CBD to THC ratio means you can get the wide-ranging benefits offered by hemp, with no physically or mentally intoxicating effects.

CBD buds have many uses, although are most often enjoyed smoked. However, you can use this product for vaping in dry herb-compatible devices, and also in homemade products, such as edibles, creams and tincture oils.

This post will concentrate on the advantages of different hemp flower intake methods, and also touch upon the wide variety of strains in our CBD Genesis range.  We have 16 strains in total – a mixture of sativas, indicas and hybrids.

The science behind CBD flower

Those who are unfamiliar with CBD Flower often ask if it will get them high.  Those who have heard of it but don’t know much about it usually ask why it doesn’t! You’re not studying for a PhD here – so we’ll keep the science simple.  Here are some important facts!

THC and CBD are both part of the cannabinoid family, and produce most of their effects in the Endocannabinoid system (ECS).  This is a natural system found in humans, dogs, cats and many other life forms, and researchers have traced it back hundreds of millions of years.  The ECS makes its own cannabinoids, known as Endocannabinoids. But plant-based Cannabinoids, or Phytocannabinoids, also interact in this system.

THC’s agonist action on the CB1 receptor is what makes us high.  This receptor regulates mood, appetite and pain.  In contrast, CBD has the opposite reaction, stopping activity at the CB1 receptor as an antagonist.  This explains why regular marijuana strains with higher levels of CBD are less psychoactive.

In the case of CBD-rich hemp nugs, the CBD concentration exceeds that of THC by up to 100 times. Therefore, CBD is completely non-intoxicating, crowding out the tiny levels of THC.  Those psychoactive cannabinoids couldn’t have an impact if they tried!

Flower products are appealing if you like the near-instant effects offered by smoking. Of course, smoking is never healthy in any circumstances.  But the risks of smoking hemp nugs are markedly reduced, as the plant doesn’t have an addictive opponent.  This couldn’t be more different to tobacco which contains nicotine, an extremely addictive compound.

Inhaled CBD responds more quickly than CBD in edibles, capsules, syrups and even tincture oils. Nothing beats the rapid delivery of cannabinoids into the bloodstream than smoking flower, although vaped CBD kicks in at the same, speedy rate.  Once in the bloodstream, CBD disperses all over the body, and even into the brain, allowing for several therapeutic effects.

The fast relief from smoked or vaped CBD is essential for a few ailments. Imagine you’re in public and a wave of pain takes over you – it’s vital that you can get relief on the spot.  The same applies for anxiety, which can spike suddenly and unexpectedly due to various factors.

And let’s not forget about the pure enjoyment of rolling a CBD joint, and indulging in the delicious, complex flavors of flower.  CBD smoking is therapeutic, but it can also be social, and a healthier option than smoking THC-laden marijuana.

Vaping Flower

Dry herb vaporizers are another wonderful way of getting your CBD dose with flower.  Vaping is safer than smoking if you’re worried about lung health, and it’s potentially more cost-effective.

When smoking, you always lose some CBD, that burns away at the end of your joint. This isn’t so with vaping, as devices just heat the flower.  Cooking the bud is enough to activate the cannabinoids and transfer them to vapor form, but you’ll never lose out on any cannabinoids.

With vaping, you can take bigger draws and stronger hits, which gives you more chance to become immersed in a strain’s terpenes and flavonoids.  You may also get some added sublingual effects when the vapor is in your mouth.

Homemade Products

Making your own edibles, topicals and oils is one for the enthusiasts, but something that CBD hemp flower is perfect for.  You’ll need to decarboxylate the flower by heating it in the oven, before infusing into an oil. To get more from your CBD-rich herb, we suggest using coconut oil, as it’s rich in MCTs. These compounds increase CBD’s bioavailability, making for a more potent extract.
Hemp is more than just CBD Buds.

There’s no doubt that CBD is the focus in a CBD flower product, but it’s not the only compound that makes its mark!  Also present are a therapeutic mix of other non-intoxicating cannabinoids, including the anti-inflammatory Cannabigerol (CBG) and brain-boosting Cannabichromene (CBC). These other Cannabinoids all play a small role in enhancing ECS function and elevating overall health, and flower is better for them.

And don’t dismiss the terpenes!  It’s these beauties that give our CBD Genesis flower such a pleasant scent. Terpenes are aroma molecules, but that’s not all they’re good for.  These compounds have beneficial effects.

Recent research suggests flavonoids are also important. Not much is known about the unique flavonoids in hemp, except they appear vital to unlocking the plant’s anti-inflammatory effects.

All these compounds are only found in full-spectrum or all-natural CBD products. And it doesn’t get any more natural or full-spectrum than flower! Unmodified products are also perfect for getting the proposed “entourage effect” that is touted by many cannabinoid experts.

Fine-tuning your dose to the milligram isn’t going to happen with CBD Buds – it’s a natural plant after all, and the CBD-containing trichomes won’t be distributed precisely. But there are steps you can take to ensure consistent effects.

.

Decide how much flower you want to smoke or vape. Then guess the right amount, or if you want to be really accurate, measure it out on a set of electronic scales. Half a gram would be 69mg of CBD. A quarter-gram just under 35mg.

Such precision is far from a requirement. But it’s nice to know how much CBD you’re getting (give or take a couple of milligrams) if trying to perfect your dose.

Buying CBD Flower Online

Perhaps the most frequently asked question surrounding CBD bud is whether or not it’s legal. You could be forgiven for thinking not, since it looks, smells and tastes like marijuana.

But appearances and aromas are just that. Flower is completely legal, according to federal government regulations, as long as the THC content makes up less than 0.3 percent of the product, at dry weight.

We always send our CBD buds in discreet and smell-proof packaging. We don’t want your neighbors or deliveryman to think that you’re buying weed!
